How to make 2 Ingredient Guacamole
The process is very simple for making guacamole with two ingredients.
For this recipe, you will need:
- 2 to 3 ripe avocados
- 2 to 3 tablespoons fresh salsa

Scoop the avocado from the skin and place the avocado into a bowl.
Smash the avocado to your desired consistency. I use a fork which works very well as long as your avocados are ripe. You could also use an avocado masher.
Finally, mix the salsa into the avocado until evenly blended.
Serve the guacamole with tortilla chips, on taco salad, or as a side dish for rice and beans.
What are the ingredients in traditional guacamole?
Authentic Guacamole is made with avocados, onion, tomatoes, cilantro, jalapeno pepper, lime juice, garlic and salt.
Aside from the avocado, the other ingredients are the same that make salsa. That’s why 2 Ingredient Guacamole works so well. You are merely combining the traditional guacamole ingredients without extra work.
How do you pick a ripe avocado for guacamole?
The most common way to choose an avocado is by gently squeezing it. If the avocado yields slightly, it is ripe. If the avocado is too hard to squeeze, leave it at room temperature for a day or two before using.
Since squeezing the avocado can cause bruising, which makes the avocado create black marks, you can also select an avocado by considering the stem.
If the stem is not easy to remove, the avocado needs time to ripen. If the stem can be removed but the area under the stem is dry or dark, the avocado is overripe and probably has black areas on the inside.
A perfect avocado will have a stem that can be removed easily and will have some green under the stem.
Does guacamole always have tomatoes?
While I prefer tomatoes in my guacamole, I have seen plenty of people skip the tomatoes and use other seasonings to add flavor to the mashed avocado.
I was once at a party where the hostess made guacamole with nothing but mashed avocado.

Eat Pallet states that onions can help keep guacamole from browning.
However, at restaurants like Chipotle, they press plastic wrap against the top of the guacamole, removing any air bubbles, to keep the guacamole from turning brown. Then, a lid is added to keep the seal air tight.
Is it okay to eat guacamole after it has turned brown?
While brown guacamole is not as pretty to look at as fresh guacamole, you can still eat it.
